Rub shoulders with the rich and famous
Part of our Retail Banking business, Private Banking looks after the financial affairs of our wealthiest and most high-profile customers. It’s an incredibly diverse client base ranging from lottery winners and celebrities to entrepreneurs, and the work is always demanding. We need to deliver well-rounded financial planning solutions that meet a host of different banking and investment needs, all while establishing the level of trust that underpins strong, ongoing client relationships.
Gaining know-how, building confidence
This two-year programme is designed to help you become a Private Banking Manager (a regulated role) – someone with the skills and confidence to give our most affluent clients expert financial advice. You’ll develop commercial awareness, a strategic perspective on Private Banking and the wider group, and a clear understanding of how we make our money. You’ll also establish the kind of internal business networks you can use to benefit your clients.
Seeing the business from every angle
There’s a lot to see and understand. So we’ll give you exposure to key areas of Private Banking as well as partner businesses - Commercial Banking and Retail Banking. In your first year alone, you’ll have two different roles and a range of placements to broaden your knowledge of the business and develop your communication and project management skills. By year two, you’ll be ready to move into a Relationship Manager role (non-regulated) and start managing your own targets and customer portfolio.
Projects to get your teeth into
Well-honed technical skills are vital to every Private Banking Manager and live projects will help boost yours. These might revolve around Private Banking strategy development and implementation, identifying new markets, developing new products or making sure we meet our regulatory requirements. It’s stimulating, influential work that continues even beyond the graduate programme and reflects the fact our business is constantly changing and evolving.
Become professionally qualified
The role of Private Banking Manager is regulated, so gaining an industry standard qualification is a crucial part of the programme. You’ll work towards the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) Certificate in Financial Planning with our full support. We’ll continue to support you in future years by encouraging to add to your Professional qualifications so you develop industry leading expertise in the world of Private Banking.
Lots of support along the way
We’ll encourage your development both before and after you qualify as a Private Banking Manager. Our supportive ‘Make it happen’ culture gives you ownership of your own career growth and the freedom to dictate the pace at which you progress. You can also count on the support of dedicated line managers, mentors and a forward-thinking learning and development function.
What we’ll be looking for
Your degree subject isn’t critical. Much more important is that you have clear, confident communication skills – the kind that will help you relate to clients and build relationships not only with them, but also with key stakeholders across the business. So as well as being a good listener, you must convince us you can negotiate, influence and work well in a team.
