Driving the business and setting ourselves apart
You’d be hard pressed to find an organisation more diverse than ours. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is one of the world’s leading financial services groups and includes a wide range of big-name brands – names like Coutts, NatWest, ABN AMRO and Direct Line – and Human Resources (HR) works across all of them, developing the capabilities of the people within them, improving our performance as a business and doing whatever it takes to set us apart from the competition.
More than 40 brands, more than 170,000 employees across over 50 countries
The challenge of recruiting, motivating, engaging, developing and rewarding so many people in a group with so many brands is huge. Our remit covers every issue involving staff – recruitment, training, development, reward, career building, change management, innovation – and we need to make sure the solutions we deliver are consistent across the Group, yet sensitive to the needs of each individual business.
Business facing and specialist placements - an incredible learning curve
The programme gives you the chance to rotate through a number of HR functions in business-facing roles in areas such as Global Banking and RBS UK and specialist placements including Remuneration and Benefits, Policy and Employment, Resourcing and Organisational Effectiveness. With each rotation you’ll find yourself on an increasingly steep trajectory as you take on more complex challenges and are given greater individual responsibility for them. You’ll gain both broad and specialist experience.
True HR Business Partners
At RBS, HR is not merely a support function. We work across all businesses and divisions in a consultative manner, as true Business Partners. The HR Graduate programme therefore gives you an opportunity to see aspects of the global operations of the Group that wouldn’t ordinarily be available to most staff.
Supported, encouraged and prepared
You’ll have access to a huge library of learning support materials, guidance from senior leaders and, at the same time, be encouraged to study for and complete professional qualifications, including the option of CIPD and on top of this throughout the programme you you’ll also undertake a range of learning and development courses. It will set you up to become one of our HR professionals of the future.
What it takes
People who thrive here rise to the challenge of making innovative contributions. You’ll need to network, collaborate and lead by example. We are looking for graduates stimulated by change, and all that this offers, meaning that you don’t rest on your success, but rather make it happen time and again. We look for people who have great interpersonal skills and can ideally evidence this through some kind of work experience. You’ll also need to be able to hold your own with key stakeholders at every level in the business.
