A remit way beyond reporting
Group Finance is all about adding value and not simply about reporting the Group’s results. That’s why we work in partnership with the different businesses that make up the RBS group. We support everything from monthly reporting, budgeting and forecasting, to new product launches. We provide performance analysis, get involved in investment decisions and advise on acquisitions.
At the core of the Group’s success
Being at the core of an organisation as diverse as the RBS group makes our business incredibly wide-ranging. It also means we play a pivotal role in the Group’s success as a whole. That combination offers people following a career in Finance an extensive range of business experience and the promise of enjoying an incredibly successful career within the RBS group.
A rotation-based programme
The programme typically lasts for two-three years. During that time, you’ll have the opportunity to rotate through a number of different areas in both Group and Divisional finance teams to get a real breadth of experience and also so that you have the opportunity to shape your own career path as you go.
Placements at the sharp end
To ensure you get the best out of your experience, placements usually last for between six and nine months. You could find yourself supporting a large institutional deal as part of Group Corporate Finance. You might be providing valuable business support as part of Group Internal Audit, supporting our capital position within our Treasury areas or providing the vital link between the Group and the City as part of Investor Relations.
Your choices define your journey
It’ll be down to you to steer the direction of your programme, so don’t expect to be spoon-fed assignments. However, if you choose to study with ICAS at least one of your rotations will be in Group Internal Audit. You’ll also have the chance to apply for an international rotation in the final year of your programme. We currently have graduates working in our business areas in the USA and Singapore.
Support from the top
Throughout the programme you’ll have access to a range of learning and development resources. Not only that, you’ll study to achieve your CIMA, ICAS or ACCA qualification. And as well as a wide spectrum of opportunities that can be tailored to individual aspirations, the programme also offers fantastic opportunities for exposure to senior management.
The qualities we look for
As well as an exceptional academic record, communicating and influencing are crucial skills – you’ll need to be able to hold your own with key stakeholders at every level in the business, from the Finance Director down. You need to be motivated to enjoy a great career with the RBS group and show commitment to achieving your goals.
