- Can I apply for more than one programme?
No. That’s why it’s so important to make the right decision for you. Use our Programme Selector and make sure you take time to weigh up your options and see what suits you best. It’s worth that extra time, just to ensure you pick the best programme for you.
- How do you tell if someone is right for RBS or not?
During the selection process, we ask candidates to undergo a number of competency-based tests as well as an interview. These have all been designed to ensure that we recruit the right people for each programme. Throughout the process there is information on what is required, so that you know exactly what the criteria is. We are looking for evidence that you have the qualities and skills that we need.
- What qualifications do I need to apply?
Each programme has its own criteria. Just click here, select a programme and see what qualifications you need.
- Do I need to prove that I have the current right to work in the UK?
For the vast majority of the programmes, the answer is ‘yes’. If you are unsure of your rights, please visit the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website, http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/.
- I'm not a recent graduate and have some work experience, can I still apply?
Our programmes are open to all graduates, regardless of when you graduated.
- I do not have the UCAS requirements, will my application be considered?
Yes. Our Ulster Bank Group programmes do not specify UCAS points, however, you will need a 2:1 or a 2:2 plus a Masters degree to apply. In addition, for our other programmes, you will still be considered if you have exceptional circumstances. Our application form includes a text box where you can provide details of your exceptional circumstances or the reasons why you do not have the UCAS requirements. Each case will be reviewed on an individual basis. Please note that proof of your exceptional circumstances will be required.
- When are the assessment centres?
These begin in November 2008. When you apply, we will keep you informed of each stage of the process to make sure you know when, or if, you will be required for an assessment centre. However, please note we run assessment centres on an ongoing basis and close programmes early if we have an overwhelming response. It is best to apply as early as possible.
- Can I speak to any graduates on any of the programmes?
Come along to one of our presentations or meet us at a careers fair near you, and there will be a chance to talk to one of the graduates who have joined us in recent years.
- Do I get a choice about where I’m based?
There are specific locations for each of the programmes. Whatever programme you decide upon, the more flexible you are the better. As a business that covers virtually every corner of the UK and with a very real global presence, ultimately you could be based in any of a number of locations.
- Can I defer my entry for a year?
Sorry - no.
- What date would I start?
September or October 2009, depending on the programme that you apply for.
- Is there an upper age limit?
No – we welcome all applications, irrespective of when you graduated.
- How long does the graduate development programme last?
Each one is different, so check out the programmes page to see how long each lasts.
- Can I apply for a position in a specific geographical location?
No. Please apply first and foremost to the most suitable programme for you. Each programme will have particular location requirements – and you need to be flexible to these.
- Do you have any placement schemes?
We offer a number of summer internships and Easter insight programmes
- How do I know if the scheme is right for me?
We can’t tell you right now exactly what programme is right for you. Why not come and meet us at one of our many presentations or careers fairs taking place throughout the UK.
- Do I get preferential banking rates when I join?
We provide our employees with a service called YourBank where you can get preferential rates on many of our products and services.
- Do I need financial experience or a Mathematics degree?
For certain programmes, such as Finance, ideally you should have a degree in Finance, Business or a Management-related discipline. But most are open to all graduates who have a 2:1 in any discipline. We also have two programmes which accept a 2:2. The most important thing is that you choose a programme that you are passionate about – and where you can show that you’re really suited to the environment.
